That is the core philosophy of 80/20. That 80% that’s slow enough to be embarrassing isn’t laziness—it’s discipline; it isn’t ineffective—it’s the deepest investment. It gives you more mitochondria, denser capillaries, a more fuel-efficient engine, and a body that stays injury-free—and all of that combined is what supports that crucial 20% of high-quality efforts, and what supports the wish to keep running for the rest of your life.

Next time you head out for a run and that older gentleman power-walking next to you is about to catch up, don’t panic. Take a deep breath. If you can speak a full sentence, you’re on the right path.
