Three months later, his recovery, training quality, and even his physique were all better than when he was desperately fighting for those 30 minutes.

Nutrition timing isn’t meaningless, but its importance has been wildly exaggerated. The real golden window isn’t the 30 minutes after training—it’s the consistency with which you take care of every day and every meal.
Unless you’re in the minority scenarios of fasted training, two sessions a day, or consecutive heavy multi-day efforts, you can completely set aside that anxiety about the clock and return your attention to what matters more: sleeping enough, eating enough, and training smart. That’s the foundation that truly supports long-term performance.
Next time a group ride ends, I hope you can do what I told A-Kai back then—sit down first, have some water, and breathe. You’re not going to waste your workout just because you eat a few minutes later.
