- Finishing-type UV absorbers washing out over time
- Fabric stretching (especially in elastic fabrics) increasing gaps between fibers
Embedded sun-protective fibers degrade far more slowly than finishing-type treatments. When purchasing, prioritize products labeled “permanent UPF” or “built-in fiber protection.”
Buying Recommendations
- UPF 50+ is the baseline requirement: Taiwan’s UV environment demands the highest level of protection
- Prioritize embedded sun-protection technology: Far more durable than coating-type treatments
- Pay attention to breathability: No matter how good the sun protection, it’s useless if you can’t stand wearing it. Choose products with good ventilation design
- Light colors + chemical protection: In hot weather, white or light-colored jerseys combined with chemical UV absorbers are the best combination—reducing heat absorption while maintaining high UPF
