Before buying one, you should first ask: does your race actually call for it?

The TT bike is the touchstone of equipment rationality. It can indeed deliver considerable speed in the right situation, but it is not a faster road bike—it is a specialized tool within a rule framework with demanding conditions: it needs a long enough, flat enough course, a properly fitted position, and a willingness to give up handling and versatility. Before buying one, the most important question is not “Is it fast?” but “Does my race justify its cost?”
