But this isn’t bad news—Heat Acclimatization training is a scientifically validated method that can help you ride faster and longer in the heat.

How Heat Affects Cycling Performance

Physiological Mechanisms

When riding in high heat, the body faces a dual challenge:

  1. Core temperature control: Large volumes of blood must be shunted to the skin for heat dissipation
  2. Muscle oxygen supply: Blood must simultaneously be delivered to the working muscles

When the demands of heat dissipation and muscle oxygen supply compete for limited cardiac output, “Cardiovascular Drift” occurs.

  2. Improved sweating efficiency: Sweating begins earlier and sweat volume increases
