The Rise of Disc Brakes
The UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) has allowed disc brakes in professional road racing since 2018, and by 2025, nearly all WorldTour teams have fully switched to disc brakes. The consumer market has followed this trend, with most brands no longer offering rim brake versions of their new road bikes.

Maintenance
Disc Brakes:

- Pro team technology will gradually trickle down to consumer-level products
- The value of used rim brake bikes will continue to decline
Existing Rim Brake Bike: No Need to Rush
- If your rim brake bike works fine, there is no need to switch just for disc brakes
- Rim brakes still perform excellently on dry roads
- Spending your budget on training and wheelset upgrades may be more effective
