裝備介紹

No Need to Turn Your Home into a Bike Shop, but Basic Tools Are a Must

The first step to maintaining your bike yourself is having the right tools. You don’t need to buy everything at once—you can gradually add tools based on your skill level.

Tier 1: Essential Basics (NT$1,000-3,000)

These are tools every cyclist should own:

Tier 2: Serious Maintenance (NT$3,000-8,000)

If you want to do monthly and quarterly maintenance yourself:

Torque Wrench: An Essential Investment for Carbon Bike Owners

If you can only buy one more tool, make it a torque wrench.

Carbon fiber components (seatposts, stems, handlebars) can crack if over-tightened, and slip if under-tightened. A torque wrench is the only tool that lets you precisely control tightening force.

Recommended specs:

  • Range: 2-25 Nm (covers common bicycle range)
  • Accuracy: within ±4%
  • Includes common bit set (4mm, 5mm, 6mm hex + T25 Torx)

Tool Storage

  • Organize with a toolbox or tool board
  • Sort small parts (bolts, washers) in clear storage boxes
  • Mount hex wrenches on a magnetic tool holder on the wall
  • Store chemicals (lubricants, degreasers) in a cool place

Where to Buy in Taiwan

Channel Pros Cons
Physical bike shops Can see the actual product, get advice Higher prices
Shopee/PChome Cheap prices, wide selection Inconsistent quality
Professional importers Quality guaranteed Higher prices
Amazon via proxy Widest selection Shipping costs + waiting time

Final Advice

Don’t buy all the tools at once. Start with Tier 1, and gradually add more as your skills and experience grow. Most importantly: buy good tools. Cheap hex wrenches can round off bolt heads, and then you won’t even be able to remove them—that’s a bigger loss.
