Having a Torque Wrench ≠ Knowing How to Use One
Many cyclists buy a torque wrench after hearing the advice, but if you don’t use it correctly, it’s just a very expensive hex key.

How to Use a Preset (Click Type) Torque Wrench
- Set the torque value: Turn the adjustment ring at the bottom of the handle to the target value
- Install the bit: Insert the corresponding hex or Torx bit
- Apply force slowly: Turn steadily—don’t use a “jerky” motion
- Stop when you hear the “click”: This means the set torque has been reached
- Don’t turn any further: Continuing to turn after the “click” = exceeding the torque
- Return to zero for storage: After use, dial the torque back to the lowest setting to release spring tension
