In triathlon training, “How hard should each workout be?” is one of the most frequently asked questions. - Adapts well to race pacing for middle distances (Olympic distance, 70.3)

- Tempo runs (20–30 minutes at threshold pace)
- Sweet Spot training on the bike (88–95% FTP)
- Threshold swim sets (e.g., 4×400 meters, 30 seconds rest)

- 20% threshold intensity (Zone 2): 1–2 Tempo sessions per week
- 10% high intensity (Zone 3): 1 interval session per week (swim or bike, choose one)
Full polarization (80/0/20) suits athletes training more than 15 hours/week. For amateur athletes, a certain proportion of threshold training helps directly improve race pace.

Use a heart rate monitor to confirm intensity: Without monitoring devices, it is very difficult to truly execute “80% low intensity”—most people’s “easy runs” actually fall in Zone 2, unknowingly doing threshold training, but without enough intensity.
