- Calculate the DPS for each round
- Find the SR range where speed is fastest while DPS drops the least — this is your personal “green efficiency zone”
Practical Recommendations
- Perform a DPS test once a month to track your technical progress curve
- Note your target stroke count for each length and count consistently every time you swim
- DPS tends to drop first when you’re fatigued, an early warning sign of technique breakdown, so slow down when needed to maintain movement quality
- Triathletes should specifically train a “high DPS, low SR” energy-conserving swim style to preserve energy for the bike and run
