Why Pace Sense Matters
In a race setting, the importance of pace sense is evident in the following scenarios:

- High-intensity intervals: Inhale every 2 steps, exhale every 2 steps (2:2)

- Week 4: Attempt a complete easy run without looking at the watch (total distance 8–10km), then compare afterward whether the average pace matched expectations
Practical Advice
- Application in Taiwan: Taiwan’s road racing season is highly seasonal. An RPE 6 pace on a cool winter day may differ by 20–30 seconds from the same RPE in summer. Perception training allows you to naturally adapt to this difference
- Not about abandoning gear: Perception training isn’t about throwing away your GPS watch—it’s about making the watch a “confirmation tool” rather than a “controller”
- Race application: In the latter half of a marathon, when external factors (terrain, pack running) come into play, strong pace sense allows you to maintain optimal pace
