Aso Panorama Line (Bochu Side)

A 10.85 km climb gaining about 612 m from Bochu through forest and volcanic grassland to the Kusasenri area. ## Overview This classic northern approach leaves Aso City near Bochu and joins public Prefectural Route 111, the Aso Panorama Line. Forest gives way to open pasture and vast caldera views. The route finishes near Kusasenri; it does not enter the toll Aso Mountain Park Road or continue to the currently regulated Nakadake crater. ## Climb analysis Three real Strava subsegments form 10.85 km and about 612 m of ascent, equivalent to roughly 5.6%. The forested opening is regular, while exposed wind and a sustained final three kilometres make the upper road harder than its average suggests. ## Riding tips - Save energy for the exposed final three kilometres. - Allow extra time for headwinds. - Fill bottles in Aso City. - Slow for livestock and farm vehicles. - Follow all volcanic-safety instructions. - Descend cautiously in crosswinds, fog and gravel. - Cancel for snow or ice. The public paved route ends near Kusasenri. Restrictions on the toll road above toward Nakadake crater do not close this route, but riders must not continue into a closed area. Annual grass burning may cause timed full closures, and winter snow or ice can trigger controls. Check Aso City, Kumamoto road and volcano notices on the day. Dry, clear days in April–June and September–November; cancel for volcanic controls, grass-burning closure, snow, ice, fog, heavy rain or strong wind.
