Route Twisk: Shek Kong to Twisk Pass

A compact northern approach to Tai Mo Shan, climbing about 409 m in 4.92 km at an API average of 8.3% from Shek Kong to Twisk Pass. ## Overview The climb starts near Shek Kong, follows Lam Kam Road into the foothills and then rises on Route Twisk to Twisk Pass. It is a classic access climb from the Kam Tin side. The segment ends at the pass and does not include the separate Tai Mo Shan summit road. Both roads remain open to normal traffic. ## Climb analysis The canonical Strava segment is 4.92 km with about 409 m of ascent, an API average of 8.3% and a maximum of 16.0%. Recovery is limited, so begin conservatively and settle into a sustainable cadence after joining Route Twisk. The 16% figure is a short ramp rather than a continuous grade. ## Riding tips - Do not chase wheels in the opening kilometre. - A compact crank and a 30T or larger sprocket are useful. - Keep left and single file around buses, cars and heavy vehicles. - Rain, fog and wet leaves make the descent hazardous. - Twisk Pass is not the Tai Mo Shan summit; budget separately if continuing. - Brake before blind bends and watch roadside drains. Lam Kam Road and Route Twisk are public roads with no identified fixed seasonal closure or bicycle ban. Events, works, fallen trees, landslides or severe weather can bring temporary controls; check Hong Kong Transport Department notices before riding.
