This compact urban climb starts near White Horse Park and the cableway station on the western foot of Purple Mountain, following the paved Observatory Road toward the Purple Mountain Observatory. The authoritative rebuilt page records 2.16 km and about 174 m of ascent, with a representative 100–150 m maximum grade near 9.4%; Strava's 17.9% API maximum is only an instantaneous sample. A genuine child segment found during the dry run began around km 0.29 and would have removed the canonical opening, so the complete mother segment was retained. Scenic-area traffic controls can change, and riders must obey gates, signs, police and staff even when using a pedal bicycle.
