What Are Strides?

Strides, also called pickups or accelerations, are 15-30 second relaxed accelerations near 95% sprint speed with full recovery.

They are not sprints or intervals. They are faster than 5K pace by about 30-60 sec/km, but short enough to avoid meaningful lactate buildup, leaving you sharper rather than tired.

Relaxation > speed: the common mistake is forcing it with tight shoulders. Think smooth gliding, not fighting.
