Used poorly—cramming high-intensity work into a fasted state, not eating enough protein, binge-eating when the window opens, or pushing through on poor sleep—it will instead drag down your training and health.

What truly determines success is never “whether you fast,” but total calories, protein, alignment of training intensity, sleep and stress management, and respecting individual differences. Fasting just places these foundations into a time frame; the foundations themselves cannot be skipped.

If you take away just one sentence today, I hope it’s this: You can train fasted at low intensity, but eat up before high intensity; take care of sleep and protein first, then play the fasting time game. Remember this order, and you won’t go astray.
