Why Do You Need Periodization?
Continuous high-intensity training leads to overtraining syndrome, while random training fails to produce adaptation. Periodized training follows a scientific principle: training stimulus → adaptation → recovery → new stimulus level.

Multi-Season Annual Planning
If the goal is to compete in multiple races (e.g., spring sprint-distance + fall half-distance), periodization becomes more complex.
Double Peak Plan
Weeks 1-8: Base block (all-sport aerobic)
Weeks 9-12: Build block (mixed intensity)
Weeks 13-16: Peak block 1 (spring sprint-distance race optimization)

Progressive Overload Principle
Each week’s training stimulus must be slightly greater than the body’s adaptive capacity to drive continued progress.

- Every 6-8 weeks: increase intensity or change training focus
