“Losing 1 kg equals being 1 minute faster up Wuling” is a saying that circulates in the industry. Although the number is slightly exaggerated, the core idea is correct: in pure climbing races, body weight is your biggest enemy.

The Impact of W/kg on Wuling Time

Using a simplified physics model (accounting for gravity, air resistance, rolling resistance):

Calculating Your Ideal Body Weight

The Simplest Formula

Ideal Body Weight (kg) = FTP / Target W/kg

Accounting for Height and Body Type

But looking at W/kg alone has a blind spot: a rider who is 180 cm tall cannot possibly drop to 60 kg. A practical formula is BMI:
