Disadvantages: Expensive equipment (Stryd costs around NT$8,000+), requires determining your individual CP (critical power, requiring all-out runs of 3 and 9 minutes), steep learning curve.

Best for: Elite/advanced runners chasing PBs, multi-terrain races (such as Wan Jin Shi or Tokyo Marathon with bridge elevation changes).

Third, do not switch to a new metric on race day—if you train with pace + HR, don’t suddenly look at power during the race; the cognitive load will hurt performance. Fourth, for the flat Taipei Marathon course, use pace as the primary metric and HR as secondary; for Wan Jin Shi and Tianzhong Marathon with elevation changes, consider referencing power. Fifth, during the multi-day taper, HR being 3–5 bpm higher than usual is normal (nervousness plus immune activity)—no need to panic.
