- Use a sterilized needle (flame-sterilized or alcohol-wiped) to puncture 1–2 small holes at the edge

Ruptured Blister
- Clean the area (with saline solution or clean water)
- Do not peel off the blister skin (it protects the new skin underneath)

Blood Blister
- Do not puncture—the infection risk is extremely high
- Apply foam padding around it to relieve pressure
- Usually reabsorbed on its own within 1–2 weeks
- Seek medical attention if redness, swelling, heat, or pain spreads

- Redness and swelling spreading outward
- Yellow-green pus discharge
- Increasing localized pain
- Fever or swollen lymph nodes
- A red streak extending toward the heart (lymphangitis)

Treating Black Toenails
“Toenails turning black” is common on long descents:
- The hematoma is located beneath the nail bed
- If painless, no treatment is needed; a new nail will gradually grow in (3–6 months)
- If severely painful and within 24 hours, use a sterilized needle or a flame-heated paperclip to puncture through the nail for drainage
- If the nail is loose, do not forcibly pull it off; simply trim the detached portion
- Prevention: Choose shoes half a size larger, trim toenails, and apply protective padding
Treating Chafing
Chafing on the inner thighs, underarms, and waistband areas:
- Clean the affected area
- Apply antibiotic ointment
- Use breathable dressings
- Pause the friction-causing activity for 3–5 days
- Prevention: Apply Vaseline and wear form-fitting moisture-wicking clothing

- Run short break-in sessions 3–5 times before wearing new shoes
- Test your complete gear setup 2 weeks before race day; never try anything new on race day
- For events over 30 km, carry spare socks, blister patches, scissors, and alcohol swabs
- In rainy races, Vaseline has limited effectiveness—the key is changing socks
- Train the thickness of the skin on your feet (walk barefoot on grass, progressively increase long distances)
- Keep a record of your personal blister-prone spots and apply preventive tape each time
