IRONMAN hosts approximately 45 full-distance races worldwide each year, spread across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Beyond Kona, many courses offer unique history and challenges, making them excellent choices for Taiwanese athletes racing abroad. This article introduces classic races in North America and Europe.

  • Lake Placid (USA): Site of the 1980 Winter Olympics in New York State, mountainous bike + two-loop run, 92% finish rate, great historical atmosphere
  • Arizona (USA): Tempe in November, flat and low elevation, three-loop bike, 95%+ finish rate, PB and Kona Qualify friendly
  • Florida (USA): Panama City Beach in November, Gulf of Mexico + flat course, most Kona slots annually
  • Mont-Tremblant (Canada): Quebec in August, top-tier mountain and lake scenery, rolling bike + undulating run

Classic European Races

  • Nice (France): French Riviera in June/September, 2024-25 men’s World Championship venue, Mediterranean + Alpine mountain bike, 2400m+ elevation gain
  • Hamburg (Germany): June, dense spectator-lined city course, flat and fast, most popular European amateur race
  • Frankfurt (Germany): July, birthplace of European IRONMAN, rolling hills + city run
  • Lanzarote (Spain): May, the “toughest IRONMAN,” volcanic terrain + strong winds and high heat, 2500m+ elevation gain
  • Copenhagen (Denmark): August, city scenery, flat and fast, many Kona slots
