Its core advantage is that you can ride at lower tire pressures without worrying about pinch flats, while sealant can automatically repair small punctures. For MTB riders seeking better handling, this is an upgrade with almost no reason not to make.

Step-by-Step Conversion Guide
Step 1: Prepare the Rim
Remove the existing inner tube and thoroughly clean the inside of the rim, ensuring it is free of oil and dust. If the rim already has rim tape, peel it off completely.
Step 2: Apply Rim Tape
Starting next to the valve hole, apply the tape along the center channel of the rim, making sure to completely cover all spoke holes. Wrap two layers, overlapping and crossing at the valve hole area to reinforce the seal. After applying, press firmly along the channel with your fingers to ensure there are no air bubbles.
Step 3: Install the Valve
Use an awl to pierce the tape at the valve hole location, insert the tubeless valve, and tighten the locking nut from the inside.
Step 4: Mount the Tire
Seat one bead of the tire onto the rim, then mount most of the other side, leaving only the last section unseated. At this point, add the sealant (40–60ml for the front wheel, 60–80ml for the rear wheel), then complete the final seating.
Step 5: Inflate to Seat the Bead
Use a high-volume inflation head or air tank to rapidly inflate to 30–40 psi, allowing the bead to snap into the rim’s bead seat. Hearing two “pop” sounds means both sides are seated successfully. After seating, shake the wheel in all directions to allow the sealant to fully coat the inside of the tire sidewall.

Regular Sealant Refills
Taiwan’s humid climate means sealant evaporates relatively slowly, but it is still recommended:
- Summer: Refill every 2–3 months
- Winter: Refill every 3–4 months
- Riders using Finish Line or Orange Seal: Approximately once every 2 months
Dealing with Bead Seating Failure
If you cannot inflate and seat the bead at home, you can try:
- Use cable ties to compress the circumference of the tire before inflating
- Bring the tire to a bike shop with large-capacity air equipment
- Check whether the rim tape is intact and whether the bead has any dents
Practical Tips
- For your first tubeless conversion, work indoors and have old newspapers ready to catch any sealant spray

- If the bike sits unused for a long time, sealant may clump at the bottom of the tire—shake it to restore, or add fresh sealant
