The dense autumn and winter race season:
October through December is the peak season for marathons in Taiwan. Many runners schedule multiple races during this period, jumping straight into the next training cycle after each race without adequate taper periods. In essence, this accumulates functional overreaching without ever triggering supercompensation.

  • Schedule only 1–2 full marathons per year as goal races; treat other races as training runs without going all out
  • After each goal race, schedule a full 4-week recovery period before entering the next training cycle

  • FOR is an advanced tool; beginners neither need nor should use it
  • Before a deliberate overload period, ensure your base fitness and recovery capacity are solid
  • During the overload period, double down on sleep and nutrition—this is the key to converting FOR into supercompensation rather than breakdown
  • Prepare a symptom tracking log, recording subjective fatigue (1–10), sleep quality, and mood state every morning
