• After passing Hsinchu City, Provincial Highway 1 enters the Zhubei Industrial Zone, where tractor-trailers frequently enter and exit from the roadside

• Connect to the Nankan River bicycle path: From the Guishan or Daxi direction, you can join the Nankan River bicycle path and follow the river into Taoyuan City, avoiding the main roads
• Head toward Qingpu (Taoyuan HSR Station): If you need to take the high-speed rail back to Taipei, you can detour near Qingpu HSR Station

Practical Tips

• Don’t ride this section in the evening: The evening rush hour in the industrial zone is most dangerous from 5–7 PM. It is recommended to stay overnight in Yangmei or Zhongli first, then pass through the Taoyuan section early in the morning
• Keep phone navigation on at all times: The industrial zone has complex intersections; one moment of inattention can lead you onto an expressway ramp, so keep navigation guidance active
• Wear highly visible clothing: This section has poor lighting (largely shaded by industrial factory buildings) and heavy truck traffic; fluorescent cycling jerseys are crucial
• Hold your line steady and ride straight: The industrial zone is not a place to enjoy scenery—stay focused and maintain a stable line

The Hsinchu-to-Taoyuan stretch may be the least “romantic” section of the island tour, but it represents another side of Taiwan’s reality—the industrial Taiwan where manufacturing and technology sustain the livelihoods of the entire island.
