Five Days, 635 Kilometers, Countless Unforgettable Moments
If you missed the live broadcast of the 2026 Tour de Taiwan, or if you watched it but want to relive those heart-pounding moments, here are our top ten highlights.
#10 The Route Misdirection Incident at the Taoyuan Stage
Stage 2, Taoyuan. Ten kilometers into the race, two leading riders were led off course by the commissaires’ car. This is an extremely rare mistake in a UCI event. The race was neutralized (yellow flag) at the 110-kilometer mark, and per regulations, time gaps within 30 seconds were not counted.
Why it made the list: Because it reminds us—even professional races can have unexpected situations.
#9 Jeroen Meijers’ Sprint Points Grab in Pingtung
Meijers of Victoria Sports took first place at two of the three sprint points at the Pingtung Liudui Stage. Riding for a Philippine team, he stood out amid the onslaught of European and Japanese sprinters.
Why it made the list: Southeast Asian teams are not to be underestimated.
#8 Huang Wei-Cheng’s Cramp-Filled Battle
19 years old, first Tour de Taiwan, thigh cramps at the Kaohsiung Stage—any one of these factors would be enough to make someone quit. But Huang Wei-Cheng gritted his teeth and stayed in the peloton, finishing in 39th place.
Why it made the list: Because the resilience of young riders is the future hope of Taiwanese cycling.
#7 Li Ting-Wei’s 50-Kilometer Solo Breakaway
At the Taoyuan Stage, Taiwanese rider Li Ting-Wei attacked solo for nearly 50 kilometers. He knew he would be caught, yet he still chose to go. He took third-place points at the sprint, and won the applause of the entire crowd.
Why it made the list: Because the romance of cycling lies in the courage to “do what is known to be impossible.”
#6 Hong Kun-Hong’s Climbing Attack
The 40-year-old veteran Hong Kun-Hong attempted a solo attack on the Jiaobanshan climb at the Taoyuan Stage. Although he was caught, a 40-year-old rider still daring to attack on a climb is a spirit that moves people.
Why it made the list: Because dreams have no expiration date.
#5 Grisel Takes the Yellow Jersey from His Teammate
At the Kaohsiung Stage, 20-year-old Matys Grisel beat all his rivals in the final sprint, and casually took the yellow jersey off the shoulders of his teammate Matthew Fox. A 1-2 battle for the yellow jersey within the same team—pure drama.
Why it made the list: Because in professional cycling, your biggest rival might be sitting right next to you in the team car.
#4 The White-Hot Battle for the Green Jersey Points
After the fourth stage, the top three in the green jersey standings were separated by just 2 points (Grisel 40, Hennequin 39, D’Amato 38). In the end, Hennequin reversed the standings to take the green jersey thanks to his Stage 5 victory.
Why it made the list: Because a 2-point gap turned every sprint point on the final stage into a life-or-death battle.
#3 Hennequin’s Journey from Perennial Runner-Up to Champion
Second, second, second… first! After finishing runner-up for three consecutive stages, Paul Hennequin finally tasted victory at the Hualien Stage. The sheer ecstasy on his face the moment he crossed the finish line said it all.
Why it made the list: Because those who persevere to the end will eventually be rewarded.
#2 Rajovic’s Side-Sprint Comeback at the Taipei Stage
With 200 meters to go, his position was far from ideal. Most riders would have accepted their fate. But Rajovic chose to launch from the side, surging across the finish line with an unexpected burst of acceleration.
Why it made the list: Because this moment defined the tone of the entire Tour de Taiwan—never give up, always look for the opportunity.
#1 Returning to East Taiwan After 15 Years
Stage 5, from Luye in Taitung to Liyu Lake in Hualien, the 153.71-kilometer “Highway of Happiness.”
This was more than just a stage; it was a historic moment. Fifteen years had passed since the Tour de Taiwan last returned to the east. As the riders rode onto Provincial Highway 9, passing through the rice paddies and mountains of the East Rift Valley, spectators across all of East Taiwan cheered from the roadside.
Why it made the list: Because this moment transcended the race itself. It represented the Tour de Taiwan’s re-embrace of the “Tour of Taiwan” spirit, and the long-awaited fulfillment of the eastern region’s hopes for cycling.
A Final Note
The 2026 Tour de Taiwan is over. But these ten moments will stay in our memories—until the 2027 Tour de Taiwan brings ten new unforgettable moments.
The beauty of cycling is this: the story never ends. As long as there is a road, there will be another race.
