Misconception 1: Higher TSB is always better

Misconception 2: Higher CTL is always better
If a rider with CTL 70 has an ATL of 120, then TSB = −50, which is a state of severe overtraining with an imminent risk of breakdown or injury. A high CTL is only valid if TSB stays within a reasonable range.

CTL, ATL, and TSB must be interpreted together. Looking at any one of them in isolation is incomplete.

  3. Taper 2 weeks before the golden race window: Autumn is the peak racing season in Taiwan. Riders participating in multiple events from September to November should plan TSB peaks for each race in advance.
  4. Reassess ATL after a cold: When you stop training due to illness, ATL drops quickly, but physical recovery may not keep pace. When returning to training, prioritize “how you feel” rather than pushing volume just because TSB is high.
  5. Review your PMC chart once per season: Examine which weeks had excessively low TSB (potential injury risk periods) and which weeks saw the fastest CTL growth, using these insights to plan next season’s training.
