  • Kaohsiung Central Park Running Track: An option for runners in the south

6-Minute Walk-Run Test (Beginner Version)

For newcomers with no running foundation at all, the Cooper Test is too intense. The “6-minute walk-run distance” is a more entry-level option: complete 6 minutes using a run-walk approach and record the total distance.

Practical Advice

  1. Don’t let your first test result discourage you: The purpose of the test is to understand your starting point, not to judge your self-worth
  2. Standardize test conditions: Try to test at the same venue, under similar weather, and at the same time of day each time to improve data comparability
  3. Use in conjunction with the MAF test: The Cooper Test assesses maximum aerobic capacity, while the MAF test assesses aerobic efficiency at a target heart rate; the two complement each other
  4. Invite friends to test together: Test simultaneously with fellow runners, timing each other, to increase accuracy and fun
  5. Do not test during race periods: Avoid high-intensity Cooper Tests 2 weeks before and 1 week after a race to avoid affecting performance or recovery
