Common Mistakes

  • Surging with the crowd: The rush of the starting pack makes it easy to run the first km 20–30 seconds faster than target pace
  • Kicking early at 7–8km: Feeling strong and accelerating too soon, but with 2–3km still to go, you can easily run out of steam after 9km
  • Not adjusting for hot conditions: When temperatures exceed 25°C, all target paces should be reduced by 5–10 sec/km
