  • When swimming in Taiwan’s open water (such as Chengcing Lake or Liyu Lake), pay special attention to whether you drift in a fixed direction—this is a good opportunity to assess breathing symmetry
  • Bilateral breathing ability is crucial for triathletes maintaining direction in open water; it is recommended that all triathletes list bilateral breathing as an essential skill
  • Try the “straight-line test”: swim 25 meters with your eyes closed and observe which side you drift toward—this visually reveals the degree of technical asymmetry
