Triathlon is won in the transitions, not the single sports
A triathlon is not three separate sports added up — races are often decided in transitions and pace distribution. Save energy in the swim, do not blow up your running legs on the bike, and train to run off the bike. The longer the race, the more conservative the pacing: 70.3 and IRONMAN bike legs are usually held at 65–80% of FTP to save glycogen and neuromuscular capacity for the run. Fueling is built around carbs per hour (often 60–90g/h on long course using glucose+fructose), with fluid and sodium matched to sweat rate. Transitions look like something you cannot train — but a good checklist is free time you leave on the table otherwise.
