I often tell my morning running group students that the most fascinating thing about training is that it forces you to gradually get to know your own body. The same workout plan—some people run happily fasted, others absolutely must eat; the same weather—some people sweat a little, others are soaked through their clothes. These differences aren’t about who’s right or wrong; they remind you: Other people’s rules are only references. Ultimately, you need to build a system that’s “your own.” And the way to build that system is to understand the principles, try things out, honestly record your body’s responses, and then fine-tune.
Once you understand the logic of your body, you’ll no longer be held hostage by slogans like “fasted fat burning” or “you must eat breakfast.” You’ll start making the right choices based on your own workout plan, your constitution, and the weather that day. The morning road is long—may every run be safe, steady, and joyful. That’s what a mature morning runner should look like.
