They’re Sprinting, We’re Hunting for Food
The 2026 Tour de Taiwan route runs from Taipei to Hualien, stringing together Taiwan’s finest food map. Unfortunately, the riders can only zoom past while sucking down energy gels, but we can take our time and enjoy.
Here are the must-eat food recommendations along each stage:
Stage 1: Taipei City Circuit Race
Around the Course (Ren’ai Road / 228 Peace Memorial Park)
| Food | Why It’s Recommended |
|---|---|
| Din Tai Fung Xiaolongbao | Head to the Xinyi Road flagship store after the race and queue up—a classic that needs no explanation |
| Yongkang Street Mango Ice | March in Taipei is already hot enough; you need ice |
| Jinfeng Braised Pork Rice | Near Nanmen Market; perfect to go after the race-day crowds disperse |
| Jinan Road Beef Noodles | A hidden gem in the alleyways beside the course |
Suggested Post-Race Cycling Route: From 228 Peace Memorial Park, follow the riverside bike path to Dadaocheng, eating at street stalls along the way.

What the Riders Actually Eat
Compared to our food map, what pro riders eat during the race is far less romantic:
- Energy gels (a toothpaste-like substance)
- Energy bars (compressed grain bricks)
- Bananas (the only option close to “real food”)
- Sports drinks (not the kind you buy at the convenience store)
So, next time you watch the Tour de Taiwan broadcast, watch them choke down energy gels while you enjoy your Wanluan pig’s trotters—that might just be the spectator’s greatest joy.
