Introduction to the Taiwan KOM Challenge
The KOM Challenge (King of Mountains Challenge), established in 2010, has grown into Taiwan’s most authoritative climbing cycling race. Every year, it attracts thousands of cyclists to compete for this prestigious title.
What makes the Taiwan KOM Challenge unique is its individual time trial format—riders start separately and are ranked by completion time, rather than the traditional mass-start format.
History of the KOM Challenge
Early Stage (2010-2015)
The inaugural KOM Challenge was held in Hsinchu in 2010, with just over 200 participants.
Growth Stage (2016-2020)
The number of participants grew year by year, reaching over 1,000 by 2019.
Internationalization Stage (2021-Present)
In 2023, the KOM was officially recognized by the UCI, becoming one of the most influential climbing races in the Asia-Pacific region.
