Westward Wuling Supply Point Guide: Complete Map of Convenience Stores, Aid Stations, and Rest Areas

The supply points along the road to Wuling are your “lifeline.” Race groups have professional aid stations, but self-supported riders must rely on convenience stores and scenic-area food vendors. This article shows you all the options.

Complete Supply Point Map (Puli to Wuling)

Puli City Center (Start, Elevation 420m)

Key Supplies

  • 7-11 Puli Zhonghua Store: Last supply stop at the start on Zhonghua Road
  • FamilyMart (Puli Zhongzheng Store): Multiple locations on Zhongzheng Road
  • Breakfast Shops: Mai Wei Deng, Mei Er Mei, Laya Burger — breakfast before departure
  • Water Refill Station: In front of Puli Township Office

Recommendations

  • Fill water bottles before departure
  • Buy 2 bananas and stuff them in your jersey back pockets
  • Use the restroom (large restrooms, crowded on race day)

Renzhiguan (16K, Elevation 830m)

  • No stores
  • Only a viewing platform and restrooms
  • Portable toilets (set up on race day)

Strategy: You must bring your own food here; note that this is the end of the 16K warm-up segment.

Wanda Bridge / Nanfeng (Around 20K, Elevation 1000m)

  • No convenience stores
  • Occasional roadside vendors (seasonal)
  • Unreliable

Wushe (21K, Elevation 1150m)

This is the most important supply point on the road to Wuling!

Stores

  • 7-11 Wushe Store (primary)
    • Open 24 hours
    • Water, sports drinks, bento boxes, rice balls
    • Restrooms
    • Located near the Wushe roundabout
  • FamilyMart (Nantou Ren’ai Store)
  • Wushe Restaurant Cluster: Bihu Bistro, near Atayal Resort
  • Fill water bottles
  • Buy 1 bottle of Pocari Sweat + 1 bottle of water
  • Eat 1 rice ball or bento box (if climbing for the next 1-1.5 hours)
  • Stay 3-5 minutes (don’t exceed 10 minutes; body temperature drops too much)

Before Cingjing Farm Guanshan Pasture Area (28-29K, Elevation 1750m)

Stores

  • 7-11 Cingjing Store: The highest-elevation 7-11
    • Located near Cingjing Farm
    • Slightly pricier but well-stocked
  • Cingjing Farm Parking Lot: Available for purchase if you enter
  • Replenish water (add 750ml)
  • Use the restroom
  • Not recommended to eat too much (still 27K and 1500m of elevation to climb)

Bowang New Village (32K, Elevation 1900m)

  • Small grocery store (occasionally open)
  • Restaurants and cafés (open on holidays)
  • Unreliable

Kunyang Dayu Road Intersection? (Misleading, this point doesn’t actually exist)

(Kunyang is the last stop before Wuling, not a convenience store point)

Cuifeng (39K, Elevation 2300m)

Stores

  • Cuifeng Villa (homestay + shop)
    • Usually sells water, sports drinks, and simple hot food
    • Prices are higher
  • No convenience stores
  • Last chance to replenish water
  • Eat some hot food (if energy is low)
  • Stop 5-10 minutes to adjust gear (add leg warmers, windbreaker)
  • Last restroom

Yuanfeng Observation Deck (45K, Elevation 2700m)

  • No stores
  • Viewing platform and restrooms
  • Simple aid station possible on race day

Kunyang (50K, Elevation 3100m)

  • No stores
  • Viewing platform and restrooms
  • Rest point before the final 2K

Note: From Cuifeng to Kunyang takes about 30-45 minutes, and this section has absolutely no commercial supply points.

Wuling (55K, Elevation 3275m, Finish)

Facilities

  • Wuling Pavilion: Viewing platform, restrooms
  • No convenience stores (many people are surprised)
  • Race-day organizer aid (water, sports drinks, finisher meal)

Supply Point Interval Analysis

Segment Distance Supply Availability
Puli-Wushe 21K ⭐⭐⭐ Only Renzhiguan restroom midway
Wushe-Cingjing 7K ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Short and dense
Cingjing-Cuifeng 11K ⭐⭐ Only Cuifeng
Cuifeng-Wuling 16K ⭐ No commercial supply at all

Strategic Implications:

  • Stock up fully at Cuifeng (bottles completely full, enough energy gels prepared)
  • Wushe is a psychological supply point (rest, recovery)
  • Cingjing is optional (if you didn’t stock enough at Wushe)

Race vs. Self-Supported Challenge Differences

Race Day (Chongyue Cup, etc.)

  • Aid stations set up at Wushe, Cingjing, Cuifeng, and Yuanfeng
  • Provided: water, sports drinks, bananas, energy gels
  • Convenience stores may be packed
  • Finisher meal and bag drop at the finish

Self-Supported Challenge

  • Entirely reliant on convenience stores and self-supplied items
  • Fully self-sufficient above Cuifeng
  • Find restaurants after descending to Puli

Supply Failure Case Studies

Case 1: Didn’t Refill Water at Cuifeng

Result: Suffered through 16K of dryness from Cuifeng to Wuling, arrived at Wuling with only 180ml of water left to drink.

Case 2: Ate Too Much at Wushe

Result: Over-supplied, stomach churned by Cingjing, took 40 minutes to recover.

Case 3: Didn’t Stop at Wushe

Result: Skipped rest to save time, energy depleted by Cuifeng, had to rest for a long time and ended up slower.

Descent Return Supply

The descent from Wuling to Puli takes about 2-3 hours:

  • Cuifeng: Refill water, warm up
  • Cingjing: Eat something if hungry
  • Wushe: Main supply stop (hot food, restrooms)
  • Puli: Celebration meal at finish-line restaurants
  • 18°C Chocolate Workshop: Popular cyclist gathering spot
  • Puli Oriental Cuisine: Taiwanese stir-fry
  • Hu Guoxiong Rice Noodles: Local specialty
  • Any restaurant with air conditioning — wash your face, replenish electrolytes

Conclusion

There aren’t many supply points on Wuling, but if you use each one correctly, you can maintain a steady output for your 5-hour ride. Print out this map or save a photo to your phone before departure, and let every milestone become a fueling station propelling you forward.
