  • Kilometers 2–3: Settle into target pace, maintain steady output
  • Kilometer 4: It starts to feel hard, but hold the pace
  • Final 1km: If you have anything left, start accelerating at the last 500m and charge through the finish

The ideal 5K feels like “the first half feels too easy, the second half feels like you can barely hold on.”

  • Taiwan has a wealth of 5K road races. Use “test races” as opportunities to evaluate training progress, entering one non-goal race every 3–4 weeks.
  • During the Week 8 taper, many runners feel “legs are light, want to run more”—this is a normal supercompensation response. Resist the urge and save that energy for race day.
  • For every 5°C increase in temperature, 5K performance slows by roughly 1–2%; Taiwan’s autumn/winter marathon season (October–March) is the best time to chase a PB.
