ACSM leg cycling equation: VO2 = 10.8 x watts / body mass + 7. This metabolic equation for stationary cycling is useful for estimating steady pedaling oxygen demand. It is not a lab VO2max (there is no gas analyzer directly measuring oxygen uptake, just a power-based theoretical estimate) and is affected by efficiency, wind resistance, standing position, temperature and calibration error — at the same power, a more efficient rider will have lower actual oxygen uptake than the formula predicts. For a precise individual number you still need a lab graded exercise test; this tool is best for everyday trend tracking and step-test planning.
