  • Don’t copy elite runners’ training volume: Elite runners’ weekly mileage of 150–200K is the result of years to a decade of accumulated training
  • Design your training around “finishing”: Not being the fastest, but arriving at the start line in the best shape possible
  • Start tapering 2–3 weeks out: Significantly reduce training volume in the final two weeks to allow full recovery and freshness
  • Listen to your body: Any sharp pain is a signal to stop training—delaying a workout beats ending your race early
