What to look for

The Mount Norikura hill climb, the highest point on Japan's roads, celebrates its 40th anniversary. Known as Japan's version of Wuling, this cycling event offers breathtaking alpine scenery at over 2,700 meters above sea level and is the only place in Japan where roads are completely closed to cars for cycling. The footage starts with a pre-race reconnaissance, capturing the transition through forest zones and the climb above the tree line to vast seas of clouds and winding hairpin turns. Under the challenge of thin air at high altitude and continuous steep slopes, just how tough is this course on Japan's highest road, and what key turning points lie along the way?
